Easier to read blogs
Many times when I start to read a blog, I find myself overwhelmed by long blocks of text on a topic I am otherwise interested in.
This is a common experience for many blog readers. Not only are long blocks of text an eyesore, but they cause readers to skip large parts of the blog, or even the entire post! This is a pity, especially since it's possible that readers could really benefit from some of the ideas that were skipped. Consider breaking verbose blogs into two separate posts if that is possible. But if you really feel the ideas work best in one post, then feel free to try one of the two methods below. They will make reading more interesting and enjoyable, as well as less overwhelming for your readers.
Formatting
When you have several distinct points to discuss it is a good idea to break the text down by bullets and/or topography/font hierarchy. I have used the latter for this post. Notice how it informs the reader of what is coming up next. They can then decide to read the parts that are most important for them. If they are low on time, in the very least they know enough to be aware of where they should look the next time they need this kind of information.
Editing
In the interest of message clarity, tangents are best avoided. In blogging, I always find it helpful to not be emotionally attached to my words and ideas. An idea may be important to me but if it detracts from the info I am presenting, I delete it. Having bullets and clear headings helps one accomplish the goal of message clarity when editing. Such breaks make it very obvious if you are rambling or going on unrelated tangents.
Until next time. Happy Blogging!
