What Really Is Trance?

Location(s)
What is a TRANCE?
Some psychologist and hypnotherapists believe we are in and out of trance all day long: when we suddenly find ourselves home but don’t remember driving there; when 8 hours goes by and we were so entrenched in painting, dancing, working, gardening etc, that we don’t notice; when we day dream, meditate, do anything repetitive, watch television or a movie, listen to music, or focus intently on anything. These are just a few examples of ways we go into trance and trance, like most things can be beneficial or harmful.
We can use trance in our self actualization process, to understand ourselves and grow. We can use it on our spiritual journey to discover our true nature, to develop connection with spirit, with nature, with our most expansive and profound selves. We can use it to heal ourselves and others, to dream up our collective reality, to change our personal reality. It is used in every culture in one way or another and seems to be as necessary to human experience as sleeping and dreaming are. Trance can also be manipulative and harmful and it is important for us to learn how to protect ourselves.
Dennis Wier, founder of the Trance Institute (http://www.trance.edu ) has written several books on the subject. He will be leading a free discussion at the Berkeley City Club on Saturday September 27 at 6:30 pm. You can call 707 294-7338 if you have questions.
