Meditation In Action: The Life and Work of Thich Nhat Hanh
Presented by Pamela Ayo Yetunde
This artful and soft-spoken documentary is an homage to a great peace activist, Buddhist, and author, Thich Nhat Hanh. He has had a profound impact on contemporary thinking and social action. His efforts to achieve an early end to the American war in Vietnam earned him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a forty-year exile from his homeland. His ongoing work teaching reconciliation and meditation with war veterans, widows, orphans, refugees, therapists, activists, and ecumenical groups has gained him a large following around the world. His quiet words and serene presence convey the intimate wisdom and compassion he is famous for. Thich Nhat Hanh tells us: “You get out of the meditation hall in order to help people. And that is called meditation in action. Deep looking is meditation, and deep acting is also meditation."
Before and after the film, everyone's invited to indulge in our Humanist Tea House

The film begins in East Berlin in 1984, five years before Glasnost and the fall of the Berlin Wall, and follows Ulrivch Muhe, whose job is to spy on a too liberal actor. Muhe makes departures from the prescribed procedures, small ones at first, and finds himself involved in the lives of others - the ones he is spying on. Oscar for best foreign language film of 2006. In German with English subtitles. Rated R.
