Types of Yoga: Four main paths

As we learned last week, there are many different paths to reaching enlightenment. Though most westerners associate yoga with the practice of yoga poses (asanas), there are many different paths of yoga, some of which do not involve the practice of yoga asanas at all. If practicing yoga poses does not appeal to you but you are interested in other paths to enlightenment, perhaps a different form of yoga is the right path for you. Yoga - Which is the right path?

In our Basics of Yoga series, we learned that yoga is a multi-faceted spiritual practice, in which the practice of physical poses, or asanas, is one part of uniting the individual with the universal consciousness.

There are in fact many different types of yoga, some of which may not even incorporate the practice of yoga asanas. All these types of yoga are different paths to the ultimate goal of self-realization.
