It’s a green Halloween.

This is my favorite time of year: cool mornings and leaves turning warm shades of ochre, red and rust. It is also time for my favorite holiday, when all the spooky and creepy things are afoot. Artisanal Products and Sustainability: A Whole Lot More Than Just Handmade.

When you first hear of an artisan or their products, many automatically think of a handmade product. You might think how quaint! But don’t be fooled by first impressions. 

Beyond the actual handmade product is an entire social and environmental background. Just like looking beyond our physical presence, there is also a life and story behind every product we select and consume.

This background includes the values, beliefs, and philosophies of people that create them; the ecology/land from which the raw material originated; and the process involved in getting it to its final state. Tangible and intangible qualities are wrapped up in just one product. The product embodies all of it.
